Four Rooms of Change™ and the Organizational Barometer©The Four Rooms of Change is a theory that deals with change, with what happens with people and organizations in transition and with how they can influence the change process by taking responsibility for their emotions and actions. The model was developed by the Swedish psychologist, Claes Janssen, in the late 60s and early 70s as part of his groundbreaking research on the dynamics of change. The four rooms - or psychological states of mind - are Contentment, Self-Censorship & Denial, Confusion & Conflict and Inspiration & Renewal.
The Organizational Barometer© is an organizational assessment tool derived from this theory. The tool can be used at the individual, group and organizational level to identify issues and to find ways of handling them. It allows you to measure the climate for change within your organization and create a common language for group and organizational dialog. The Organizational Barometer© is a dynamic real-time diagnosis of your organization’s current thinking around change, the need for change and change readiness. It is not a traditional organizational climate survey as it does not try and describe or assess the organizational culture. Instead the tool forms a basis for organizational dialog and the creation of specific action plans which can then be implemented immediately as part of a ‘real time’ strategic change intervention within your business. The barometer is an excellent alternative to anonymous employee opinion surveys or can be used to enhance the quality and clarify the meaning of data that you have already gathered from a survey. The tool is often administered to large groups following an initial introduction to the Four Rooms of Change™ and then leads to an immediate exchange of experiences, needs and expectations. Clarion Learning recommends this unique and empowering methodology as part of the discovery phase of any organizational transformation.
